Green Cycle My Life | Sport & Health 28 NOV 2007

Gym BikeWell, it seems like the Big Cheeses have finally got it right there at Weather Central because it looks like today is going to be an absolute stunning summer’s day – at last! :)

Will miracles never cease? I did indeed stay true to my word last night and hit the gym again, this time staying a little longer than normal and in fact, even did something I haven’t done in ages – cycled on the gym bike! Since my cycling days are well and truly behind me, I kind of avoid bikes like the plague, but last night I was looking for something a little different from the usual jog – so bike it was.

Actually, it didn’t go all that badly, but boy are my legs out of condition. I guess I’m going to have to do this a little more often so that I don’t look too much of a ponce on the damn thing in the future. Oh, I’m also spending far more time on the rower than what I used to as well – it seems that variety is the spice of life after all!

But wait. There’s even more.

After I had finished up to gym I popped into the ever accommodating Pick ‘n Pay at Tygervalley to pick up the incredients’

‘for my smoked chicken salad!

Yup, I decided to go the healthy route last night and whipped up a delicious smoked chicken salad, complete with chopped up chicken, pineapple, tomato, onion, apple and cucumber, all held together by some thinned out tangy mayonnaise. It was absolutely delicious and is probably the greenest thing I’ve eaten in ages. Of course, the dish makes quite a few portions though, so you can guess what’s on the menu for the rest of the week!

I tried to balance out all the healthy obsession by buying beer and chocolate and doing some work at home last night, but my attempts at balance were severely curtailed thanks to an enjoyable phone call from Liz to fill me in on all the details of her life and then a visit by my bokkie C because she was missing me so much. So while I didn’t get any work done or guzzle any beer, we did manage to knock back some sumptuous Nederburg Baronne instead.

Oh, and because I’m starting to get whipped into the idea of the whole fitness lifestyle once more, I’m going to attempt suicide tonight by joining in that women-infested class known as Katabox at the gym. I used to do it back in the day at Aquarius Gym, so I know what to expect, but I am looking forward to a nice change in my routine – that is, if it doesn’t kill me first!
