I have always loved Robert E. Howard’s creation, Conan the Barbarian, from the crappy live-action Arnold Schwarzenegger movies to the scintillating plethora of books and pulp comics that preceded them. In fact, as a kid (which I still basically am anyway), the hack and slash fantasy has always been my staple entertainment and now I’ve been quite happy to discover the world of collectible action figurines, fueling my existing love for the character, the mythos and the genre as a whole.
Of course, the word ‘collectible’ is always a particularly dangerous word for me.
For some strange reason, the genetic wiring of a collector seems to have been hardcoded in me, because for as long as I can remember I’ve always collected stuff. And not just collected, more like obsessed. I’m the kind of person where it isn’t quality that overly counts – instead quantity far outweighs my obsession with quality!
So like I mentioned, my new hobby of figurine collecting has gotten off to a blazing start. Having sworn to myself that I wouldn’t get hooked, I purchased my very first figurine a couple of months ago in the form of Conan the Cimmerian from McFarlane Toy’s Conan: Series 1 range. Enthralled by the level of detail and sculpting prowess on the model, I couldn’t help but marvel at the intricacy and design – which could also explain why now as I sit typing this entry I am overlooking 6 of these figurines in my flat!
And not just static figures I’ll have you know. No, instead I have them arranged in two groups of three, all partaking in some or other battle scene :)
And because this blog allows me to publish anything I feel like, here’s a list of all my possessed characters:
I may need help.
