Oh noes true believers! The worst of the worse has come true, the scenario that we have all for so long dreaded… the House of Mouse does indeed now own the Mighty Marvel Machine!
It was announced yesterday that Walt Disney Co. has agreed to buy Marvel Entertainment Inc. for a stock and cash deal valued at 4 billion dollars. Of course, this means that in addition to its already huge cadre of existing franchises that includes the likes of Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck amongst others, Disney now has in its grubby licensing-mad paws the full complement of heroes and villains that we’ve all come to love and admire over the years, people and groups like Spider-man, Iron Man, X-Men, Thor, Fantastic Four and Captain America just to name a few.
Of course, for Disney this is the perfect opportunity to expand its currently burgeoning empire thanks in particular to Marvel’s current successful run of full-length cinematic feature films, and who knows, pretty soon they may just start infusing the two universes’ characters together, much like the Kingdom Hearts experiment they ran a couple of years ago in conjunction with Square Enix.
Anyway, the tall and the short of it remains. Mickey Mouse now pwns Wolverine’s ass! :(
