This week in cosplay we have a look at one of the talented Pixelninja’s earlier forages into the world of Cosplay – with that of a blood-splattered Saya from Blood: The Last Vampire notoriety.
Hiroyuki Kitakubo’s blood-splattered, stylishly action-packed spectacular that is Blood: The Last Vampire first burst onto the scene in 2000, courtesy of the powerhouse that is Production I.G., partnered with Aniplex. The relatively short movie followed the enigmatic Saya with her trusty katana on a quest to slay all demon-like, bat-winged Chiropterans that she came across.
Implied to be the last remaining vampire, Saya displays no particular weakness to sunlight though she does however become distressed in the presence of religious paraphernalia and utterances of God in her presence. She seems to possess superhuman senses and strength, and comes across as being particularly skilled, cunning and resourceful. Although young in appearance, evidence suggests she was already moving about in 1892 already, most likely with her rather large disdain for humans already quite intact!
Swedish girl Pixelninja, or Jenni Kallberg to be more precise, is probably most famous on the Net and in the world of Cosplay for her particularly brilliant Samus Aran from the Metroid Prime game franchise. However, she’s cosplayed a fair number of other characters and this particular one of Saya dates back to some of her earlier work. As you can see, it looks like she had a lot of fun with this particular suit. Sure, the costume is pretty easy to slap together, but once you start throwing in a beautiful katana and all that fake blood, well let’s just say she’s dedicated to pulling off a great impersonation! :)
