2011 South African Public Holidays General Nonsense 23 MAR 2011

If like me you are a little slow on the uptake, here is the list of official South African public holidays for 2011.

  • 1 January – New Year’s Day
  • 21 March – Human Rights Day
  • 22 April – Good Friday (Friday before Easter Sunday)
  • 25 April – Family Day (Monday after Easter Sunday)
  • 27 April – Freedom Day
  • 1 May – Workers Day
  • 2 May – Public Holiday
  • 16 June – Youth Day
  • 9 August – National Women’s Day
  • 24 September – Heritage Day
  • 16 December – Day of Reconciliation
  • 25 December – Christmas Day
  • 26 December – Day of Goodwill

If you take these and plonk them in your calendar and then look a little closer, you’ll notice something pretty awesome. If you put in leave for the 26, 28 and 29 April, you will in affect have 11 straight days free from work for the ridiculously low price of only 3 days’ worth of leave! (22 April – 2 May, starting work again on the 3rd).

Needless to say, there are going to be a lot of empty business parks over this period! :)

(P.S. My leave request already went in way back in January, just in case you were wondering! :P)
