Today’s cosplay entry comes from the hilarious world of Hideaki Sorachi’s hit manga Gin Tama, featuring none other that the powerful, bulletproof umbrella wielding Kagura!
Set in Edo, or the Land of Samurai, an invasion by a race of aliens known as the Amanto has resulted in a multi-species city where aliens coexist with humans and where despite the current historical era, advanced technologies now find themselves in society.
Odd Jobs Gin is the name of an odd jobs or freelancer business run by the former, slightly eccentric samurai Gintoki Sakata, and this is where you will find Kagura, the young alien girl who happens to belong to the Yato Clan, one of the strongest and most bloodthirsty of the Amanto races.
However, in an effort to escape this part of herself, Kagura has come to Earth in order to earn money, but thanks to her rather prodigious strength and fighting abilities, quickly found employment in the very fields she was trying to avoid. But a chance encounter with Gintoki gave her the opportunity to intimidate Gintoki to hire her, and now she provides the necessary muscly for Odd Jobs Gin.
Because of her translucent skin (in other words highly sensitive to sunlight), Kagura always carries an umbrella with her, which doubles as her weapon seeing as it is both bulletproof and capable of firing bullets from its tip. Naturally her Yato heritage makes her very strong, which is a problem because her control isn’t particularly great.
Hence a lot of pets who met an unfortunate demise.
This tomboy also has a huge appetite as well as a penchant for being a little… rough around the edges. Voiced by Rie Kugimiya in the anime, popular cosplayer Midori Kanda brings this rough and tumble alien girl to life, pulling off a great cosplay in the process!
