A Quiet Weekend for Me My Life 15 JUL 2013

We didn’t have particularly good weather here this weekend – if it wasn’t raining then the wind was blowing, and combining that with a sick Jessica meant that this weekend past was a pretty quiet one, with myself and Jess hardly stepping out the door!

Friday at work was pretty nice, what with some delicious Debonairs pizza Ignatius decided to treat the team with at lunch time, but when I did eventually arrive home in the evening, I walked in on a deathly sick Jessica, burning up and curled on top of Chantelle. Having stayed the day at home (and completely kept Olga out of her work), little Jessica didn’t last particularly long before she was dosed up and into bed for the evening. As far Chantelle and myself, after our chicken burgers for supper, it was back to the kitchen for Chantelle (swamped with a huge order for the Deli for the big Bastille weekend festival over in Franschhoek), while I stretched out on the couch and enjoyed the rather silly but entertaining non Street Fighter movie, Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li.

On top of all the baking and delivering, Chantelle also had a fairly busy social calendar this weekend, first up Chane’s baby shower in Somerset West, and then a girl’s night in with Trish, Natasha and Michelle over in Bellville. That left me and a sick Jessica, who spent much of the day cooped inside thanks to the rainy weather, with Jess catching more than the odd nap on top of me while I caught up on some TV. As a particular bonus, I finally made some time to watch the second Fullmetal Alchemist movie, Fullmetal Alchemist: The Sacred Star of Milos, and I have to say, it was a pretty enjoyable and engaging watch.

By late afternoon Jessica has recovered enough that I made the call to accept my dad’s invite to come over and join them for supper in Bellville, and so Jess and I ended up spending the whole evening at my folk’s place (Ryan also joined us), enjoying a delicious supper of fillet and beef roll done in dad’s Weber, as well as hunkering down to enjoy the excellent Stormer victory over the hapless pink Bulls in their big Super Rugby clash happening over in Newlands.

After returning home to Gordon’s Bay, dosing and putting Jess to bed, I then continued to waste away the rest of the evening (and early hours of the morning) by taking on Ryan in some entertaining FIFA football matches (finally, Lady Luck swung my way!), whilst poor Chantelle arrived home rather late, forced straight to the kitchen for some late night baking to fill an emergency Sunday order for the deli.

By Sunday the rain had cleared but unfortunately the wind was firing on all cylinders, meaning yet another day of being cooped up in the house. Plenty of naps were had by all, and I did at least escape for a bit with Jess (who was feeling a lot better by now) to the shops for a quick supplies run, as I whipped up a delicious pork and lamb braai for lunch.

A bit of FIFA with Ryan, lots of coffee and leftover milktart cupcakes with Chantelle, as well as a bit of time taken out to do my tax filing via the superb SARS E-filing website, was pretty much what made up the remaining bit of the weekend, thereby drawing to close what in the end turned out to be a rather quiet weekend for me.

Not for Chantelle mind you, but as they say, that’s her problem! :P (She’s vowed to take Monday off though, and fair enough, she definitely deserves it!)
