Comic book artist Kevin Walker has gone through a number of different styles over the years, but the one thing that has remained constant is his ability to deliver some iconic Judge Dredd pieces.
This particularly moody, styled cover featured on prog 1453, announcing the start of the equally dark Mandroid thriller story arc.
Back when British artist Frazer Irving first started making waves with his work on the venerable 2000AD, he was primarily known for his excellent and stylish horror work, particularly on titles like Necronauts, Judge Death and Tharg’s Terror Tales.
However, that didn’t stop him from being picked on in order to provide some cover work for the magazine, and so come issue 1256, out came a dazzlingly detailed rendition of a snarling Nikolai Dante, weapons crest at the ready!
Now just imagine they had actually asked him to handle the art chores on the story itself!
Shaun of the Dead is the rightful cult king in terms of British zombie films, finding that perfect balance between horror, zombie, romance, black humour and all out laughs.
As a tie in with the movie, director Edgar Wright and main honcho Simon Pegg joined forces with artist Frazer Irving to produce a Shaun of the Dead related tail, “There is something about Mary”.
Needless to say, the talented and moody Mr. Irving needed to whip up a decent cover to mark the occasion covered by 2000AD issue 1384, and as you can see, no problem there!

Just a quick heads up if you happen to stay in the Strand/Somerset West area and are pretty fond of reading your foreign (read British) magazines. The Paperweight branch situated in Gants Plaza (right next to the Virgin Active gym that overlooks the N2) is having a massive clearance sale to try and cut down its rather heavy current stock levels, which of course means great bargains for us little people.
Currently all magazine, and I mean ALL of them, are going for R5 a shot and their softcover paperbacks are being sold at 4 for R10 – talk about a killer bargain! I myself managed to stall my gym session for a good 20 minutes yesterday by browsing up and down the racks and emerging triumphantly with seven different copies of 2000AD and one Otaku USA mag!
So there. Now you can’t tell me that I haven’t done my civic duty for the day! :P
