For Sale: Sturdy White Baby Compactum – R1,200 For Sale 21 JAN 2014

Please note that this item has since been sold and is no longer available for purchase.

Although we’ve just had our second baby arrive on the scene, unfortunately the room that she now calls her own simply doesn’t have enough floor space to accommodate the beautifully sturdy and neat white compactum that we used first time around for Jessica.

I’ve attached a picture to this advert showing my three year old Jessica standing in front of the compactum to give you a good sense of its size, and as you can see, this tall, spacious work space comes with ample storage area in the form of four sturdy pull-out drawers and a vertical, shelved cupboard to the side. Its height is perfect for working with a baby, saving one a lot of backache in the process, and is definitely one of those must haves if you have the floor space for it!

We’re selling it for R1200, which seems a good price if I take into account other similar items for sale on Gumtree and OLX.

Please note it is fairly large and you will therefore have to arrange transport for it, either in the form of a trailer, bakkie or truck. (Unfortunately I can’t help you out on that front. My little Hyundai Getz just doesn’t cut it!)

Wall Panel Heater for Jessica Jessica | My Life 17 JUN 2011

Seeing as it is now Winter which of course equals lower temperatures, we decided to install a comfy wall panel heater in Jessica’s room in order to ensure she remains toasty all Winter round. Now if you’ve ever done any research into heating solutions, you will know that wall panel heaters are pretty power efficient and completely safe to be around, making it a natural choice for children’s rooms.

As it turned out, Ryan had actually removed a wall panel from his house and given it to us, meaning the only thing I needed to do was drill some holes and install it. Of course, I’m kind of surprised I still have any wall left considering all the drilling I’m doing out and about our home, and after a few hiccups, one phone call to dad, and an accidental secondary hole which first need to be filled with Polyfilla before I could continue, Jessica’s warm and cosy panel heater was mounted up on the wall and ready to spread some warmth.

And while it doesn’t exactly heat up a room like a conventional heater does, it certainly does enough to raise the temperature to a very comfortable level, indicated by the fact that little dribble monster no longer wakes up with ice blocks instead of hands! :)

So thank you Boet, you saved us a nice little wad of cash with your gift and more importantly, aided in the well-being of little Jessica in the process!

(Saving me from a lot of embarrasment more often than not)

Rocking Chair: Space for Two? My Life 05 DEC 2010

Although we haven’t gotten around to setting up and beautifying Jessica’s baby room just yet, we do at least have all the furniture in place, you know, the big things like the compactum and cot, and of course the all important rocking chair which will most certainly be used on a daily basis by Chantelle and little Jessie.

Now of course, in order to ensure that the rocking chair will in fact handle this dual load, it needs to be properly tested of course.

Enter Achilles and Olympus…

Cat in the Cot My Life 19 OCT 2010

I haven’t gotten around to posting many pictures of our new home, or even discussing it that much, but I thought it imperative that I share this particular snapshot with you before it gets lost in the clutter that makes up my desktop.

Although Chantelle and I have been rather busy whipping the rest of our house into shape with all the new purchases, arrangements and decor choices, we haven’t quite neglected the baby room altogether – already we have a wonderfully comfortable lazy boy recliner, originally belonging to Chantelle’s grandfather, now sitting proudly in Jessica’s room, ready for those late nights when mom will be fighting sleep deprivation in order to calm and feed our baby girl.

Our first purchase for the room was however a fantastic little white cot, with three adjustable bed heights, a sliding front gate which allows for easy access and a nice and chewable gummy guard on the rail for when little Jessica eventually develops what will be her ferocious Mike Tyson bite force (a proper little fighter she’ll be, mark my words!).

The theme for the room is going to basically be white with as much girly stuff/patterns as possible (you should see the too cute clothes and cloth that are already making its way here), in other words a super fun project that lies ahead of us once the rest of the house is finally up to our standard.

Anyway, back to the snapshot at hand. Despite the fact that we did buy our little white cot second hand and for a very good price from a lady out in Somerset West (transported back in Whammy’s bakkie with me sitting on the back holding onto it for dear life), it will definitely need to be properly tested to ensure it provides a quality resting place for our coming baby girl.

So it was.

Jessica's cot being tested for comfort level

I’ve got a feeling Jessica will be receiving more than her fair share of furry love in the future! ;)
