Lady Death Cosplay: Lady Death (Belle Chere)

Although Lady Death started out as little more than eye-candy for the Evil Ernie, she has since gone on to be one of the premier bad girl heroines in comic book history.

American cosplayer Belle Chere tackles the task of bringing to life this sexy, sword swinging bad girl with a lot of gusto – as you can see for yourself in these shots!

There are at least three very distinct versions of Lady Death, all carrying very different origin stories, courtesy of the character’s convoluted publishing history thanks to the character rights switching hands ever so often.

Classic Lady Death sees a girl named Hope escape being burned at the stake after mistakenly being labeled a witch, ending up in Hell thanks to a misguided bargain struck with a demon she inadvertently summoned while attempting to escape.

Once in Hell, Hope became entangled in a civil war that was raging between Lucifer and an army of renegade devils led by a powerful sorcerer. Hope was devastated when she learned that the ambitious sorcerer challenging Lucifer for the control of Hell was her own father.

Gradually corrupted by the nature of her surrounding, Hope was tainted with evil. She allied herself with an exiled craftsman who forged weapons for the infernal armies. While speaking to him, she declared that the innocent woman she had once been was dead and that she would henceforth only be known as Lady Death.

In her new persona, Lady Death led an uprising against the Lords of Hell. During the final battle, Lucifer cursed her never to return to Earth while the living walked. Lady Death swore an oath that she would circumvent Lucifer’s curse by exterminating all life on Earth.

Lady Death finally ended Lucifer’s control over her by casting him through Heaven’s Gate (a place where evil cannot go), and in doing so became the new ruler of Hell. Many of the beings living in hell believe that the ascension of Lady Death signaled the beginning of the age of judgment – the final battle between good and evil for the fate of the Earth.

Red Sonja Cosplay: Red Sonja (Belle Chere)

The sword-slinging she-devil that is Red Sonja, gets a fantastic cosplay effort here courtesy of American cosplayer Belle Chere, who doesn’t seem to mind the cold all that much!

Red Sonja, the She-Devil with a Sword, is a fictional character, a high fantasy sword and sorcery heroine created by Roy Thomas and Barry Windsor-Smith, and loosely based on Red Sonya of Rogatino in Robert E. Howard’s 1934 short story “The Shadow of the Vulture”. She first appeared in the Marvel Comics book Conan the Barbarian #23 (February 1973).

After the murder of her family and her rape by a Mercenary group, Sonja’s cries of revenge were answered by the red goddess Scáthach, who appeared to her and instilled within her incredible skill in terms of the handling of swords and other weapons of war, on the condition that she would never lie with a man unless he defeated her in fair combat.

This revenge-driven warrior has since become the archetypical example of the fantasy female barbarian, being fierce and stunningly beautiful, and wearing armour that resembles either a bikini or lingerie.

We can all thank artists Esteban Maroto and Boris Vallejo for that, now can’t we? ;)

The Avengers Cosplay: Ms. Marvel (Belle Chere)

The talented American cosplayer Belle Chere puts together today’s great Avengers cosplay, featuring none other than one of the strongest female heroes in the Marvel superhero lineup, Ms. Marvel!

Carol Danvers, a.k.a Ms. Marvel a.k.a Warbird a.k.a Binary has certainly been put through the wringer over the years in terms of continuity and back story, but as one of Marvel’s premier female superheroes, Ms. Marvel has served as a team member on The Avengers, X-Men, Starjammers and S.H.I.E.L.D.

She’s the reason Rogue has her more useful abilities and currently sports the powers of flight (at the speed of sound), strength, stamina, a useful “seventh sense” and of course the ability to blow things up.

In other words, a dangerous woman to be around.

The Sensational She-Hulk Cosplay: Jennifer Susan Walters (Belle Chere)

Popular American cosplayer Belle Chere goes completely green and rips her little lawyer outfit in the process, bringing to life Jennifer Susan Walters, a.ka. The Sensational She-Hulk!

She-Hulk, also known as Jennifer Susan Walters has been a member of the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, Heroes for Hire, the Defenders, Fantastic Force, and S.H.I.E.L.D. A highly skilled lawyer, she has served as legal counsel to various superheroes on numerous occasions. She also just happens to be the cousin of Bruce Banner, better known as the Incredible Hulk.

She is the small and somewhat shy daughter of Los Angeles County Sheriff William Morris Walters and Elaine (née Banner) Walters (who died in a car crash when Jennifer was seventeen). Operatives of Nicholas Trask, a crime boss who had crossed paths with her father, shot and seriously wounded her on a day that Bruce Banner happened to be in town for a visit. Since no other donors with her blood type were available, Banner provided his own blood for a transfusion; as they already shared the same blood type and DNA, his radioactive blood, combined with her anger transformed Jennifer into the green-skinned She-Hulk when the mobsters tried to finish her off at the hospital.

As She-Hulk, Jennifer possessed powers similar to those of her cousin, though at a reduced level. She also possessed a less monstrous, more amazonian appearance. Initially, the transformation to her She-Hulk form was triggered (as with Bruce Banner’s) by anger. Like her cousin Bruce, his counterpart, the Leader, Doc Samson, and most other persons mutated by exposure to Gamma Radiation over the years, her mutated form was originally explained as being molded by her subconscious desire to look like the ideal woman. She eventually gains control of her transformations when Michael Morbius cures her of a lethal blood disease.

Originally ill-tempered and violent, she is now depicted as a fun-loving, kind, empathetic, yet still feisty woman who frequently uses humor when fighting. She has stated that she does not want to kill her foes, especially ones that she has already subdued.

Brutal Legend Cosplay: Drowned Ophelia (Belle Chere)

Double Fine Productions released the well received Brutal Legend in 2009, which features the character of Eddie Riggs, voiced by and modeled after Jack Black, a roadie who is transported to a fantasy world inspired by the artwork of heavy metal album covers. Eddie becomes the world’s savior, leading the down-trodden humans against a range of supernatural overlords using a battle axe, his Flying V guitar that can tap into the magical powers of the world, and a customizable hot rod.

Initially an ally, but then turned enemy, Drowned Ophelia is certainly not a character to be messed with – which is brutally apparent in American cosplayer Belle Chere’s fantastically twisted cosplay!

Drowned Ophelia is the dark form of Ophelia that emerged from the Sea of Black Tears. Spawned from her sense of betrayal at the hands of Eddie Riggs, this Ophelia spends the next three months using everything she’d learned from the roadie to form her own army of Tear Drinkers, which she names the Drowning Doom.

In this form, Ophelia has a drastically different appearance to her previous look. Her hair is black and she she wears thorn-like barrettes, while her eyes are tinted purple and accentuated with eye-shadow that imitates tears. Most notable is her skin, which is blue, simulating asphyxiation, and the Black Tears themselves that form her clothing. These are a black torn-up dress that sublimates at the bottom, gloves and a fan-like collar of Tear tendrils at the back of her head.

The Black Tears also allow her to sprout giant black raven wings at will, allowing her to fly or escape from danger. When she chooses to attack, she can strike at enemies using the Tears, forming them into a melee weapon. Finally, the Black Tears allow her to manifest the Six-Stringed Sorrow whenever she wishes to play a solo.

Ophelia’s personality is much darker than before, and she behaves somewhat like a femme fatale that remarks on death, misery and emotional injuries. This is most evident when she is dealing with Eddie, as the idea that he has betrayed her trust is central to her character. She frequently mocks him for his lack of understanding.

Uncanny X-Men Cosplay: Goblin Queen Madelyne Pryor (Belle Chere)

Madelyne Pryor is somewhat of a tragic character thanks to forced changes that attempted to fix the status quo in the X-Men universe after the resurrection of Jean Grey. At the end of it all, the easiest fix was to simply make her a clone and turn her into a supervillain, namely the hateful and nefarious Goblin Queen!

American cosplayer Belle Chere has never shied away from baring some skin to pull off a costume, though she certainly had to push the envelope with this one!

Madelyne Jennifer Pryor-Summers is a fictional character in the Marvel Comics universe. As the love interest and first wife of X-Men leader Cyclops (Scott Summers), she became a long-standing member of the X-Men supporting cast, until a series of traumas – being abandoned by her husband, losing her infant son, and discovering that she was a clone of Jean Grey – eventually led to her being manipulated into becoming a supervillain.

She and Cyclops are the parents of Nathan Christopher Charles Summers.

Madelyne’s biography has been rendered particularly complicated because of the many retcons involved in the publication history of both her character and that of Jean Grey.

Soulcalibur IV Cosplay: Ivy Valentine (Belle Chere)

Probably the most under dressed and overly endowed woman in fighting games today, it is no wonder that Soulcalibur’s Ivy Valentine always seems to sit around the top of almost all Sexiest Game Character lists ever released!

For this shoot American cosplayer Belle Chere gets more than a little daring – but pulls off a fantastic Ivy cosplay in the process!
