Kids Gumboot Birthday Parties at Gan Eden Farm in Durbanville (2017-12-09) Kid Activities | Photo Gallery 04 JUL 2018

I have got such a massive backlog of photo galleries to post, that there are items popping up now that should literally have gone up a year or two ago – case in point – the girls had such a lot of fun attending Lizzy’s birthday party in December last year.

Hosted by Gumboot Parties on Gan Eden Farm at the back of Durbanville, the children were treated to all the staples of a farmyard party: a pony ride, a tractor trailer drive, feeding the hogs, feeding the horses, collecting fresh eggs from the chicken coop – basically just loads of fun for all our suburban/city kids.

The large playground also meant lots of running around and play time in between all the snacking and cake munching. (Even if we had to wait an extraordinary long time for the latter because Mike couldn’t get the birthday girl’s candles all lit!)

If the weather is good then this is such a great venue for kids birthday parties – so worth keeping in mind if you live in the Northern Suburbs and don’t particularly feel like cleaning up all the mess following a birthday party held at home! ;)

P.S. This was the very first time that Emily was brave enough to go into the chicken coop and collect her own egg. Jessica was super impressed by her little sister for a change!

Jessica Turns 7 Birthday Party at Country Mews (2017-11-11) My Life | Photo Gallery 09 MAR 2018

Jessica turned 7 in November last year, and unlike Emily’s 4th birthday a handful of months ago in January, I actually remembered to take some photos on the actual day!

With Chantelle still building her home baking business from the ground up, we decided to host Jessie’s party at our house once again, which of course then meant all the fun and games that goes into prepping for it.

As per usual Chantelle did ALL the work, though this time around we thought it fun to let Jessica decorate her very own birthday cake – something she seemed rather appreciative of!

The drop-off and go party setup meant our yard was inundated with a gaggle of excited little girls (no boys allowed), and pleasingly all our usual party games went swimmingly well.

Present opening, jungle gym, and games aside, the girls were also more than little chuffed at the idea of getting stuck into the kitchen to make and bake their very own cookies! (With a little expert guidance from Chantelle of course…)

The weather was great, the girls had fun, and so I guess yet another successful birthday celebration is now in the bag.

(P.S. The biscuits were surprisingly not half bad in the end.)

Emily Turns 3 Birthday Party at Kidz Corner Indoor Playpark in Strand (2017-01-21) My Life | Photo Gallery 23 JAN 2018

Continuing the theme I started yesterday of “I completely forgot to take photos of Emily’s 4th birthday party last weekend, so I best upload all the other birthdays before I lose everything to a hard drive failure”, here are some photos I grabbed from Emily’s 3rd birthday party, which we held last year January for all her friends at the Kidz Corner Indoor Playpark in Strand.

Emily was, or rather is, besotted with Peppa Pig, so of course she demanded a Peppa Pig cake for her birthday. Naturally Chantelle obliged (not to mention went to a lot of trouble in terms of the rest of the catering), and from all accounts the party was a nice success – i.e. the kids all seemed to have a lot of fun!

For the family part of the celebrations, we organised a get together around the cake at my folks’ place in Bellville, which ended up being pretty enjoyable too.

There, mission accomplished, these photos are now all nicely safe and sound up in the cloud.

(Oh, and if you want to know more about Kidz Corner, turns out I’ve written about them before.)

Jessica Turns 6 Birthday Party at Country Mews (2016-11-12) My Life | Photo Gallery 22 JAN 2018

This weekend we celebrated Emily’s fourth birthday with a party here at our house in Country Mews, Gordon’s Bay. For some reason I completely forgot to take any photos on the day – very strange for me, I know!

That got me thinking though. I’m reasonably sure that I haven’t posted any photos of the girls’ recent birthdays to the blog – something I reckon I had better rectify sooner than later before I lose everything due to an untimely hard drive crash!

So anyway, at the end of 2016 we celebrated Jessica’s sixth birthday with a full on party day at our house, the first session of the day belonging to Jessica and her school/complex friends and their folks, and the second celebrated with our family and friends with their kids.

So two parties in one day – turns out it is possible, but man is it exhausting! :)

(For reference, there was a mermaid cake, cupcake decorating, snow globe making, jungle gym tumbling, present unwrapping, happy birthday singing, and of course lots and lots of party packs! Oh, and put-it-together-yourself hamburgers too.)

They’re growing up so fast these days! :)

Celebrating at the Lekke Neh Kids Carnival on Weltevreden Estate in Stellenbosh (2017-01-08) Photo Gallery | Restaurants 27 FEB 2017

We only discovered the beautifully restored, historic Weltevreden Estate last year. Packed with all manner of interesting art and sculptures, the classic Cape Dutch manor house and homestead is home to a brilliant little eatery that trades by the fun name of Lekke Neh, a wine tasting room, conference and wedding venue facilities, exquisite grounds, and most important of all – if you have little kids like we do – a separate, super kid friendly area known as the Kids Carnival – complete with a fantastic selection of playground equipment and of course kid friendly food choices!

As it turns out, we’re not the only ones fond of this place – my sister Claire also rather enjoys it, and so despite them living all the way out in Constantia, we were surprised to get an invite to join them for a family get together for their little boy’s recent birthday celebration.

Needless to say, our girls were rather excited by the prospect of heading out to The Carnival once more!

On such a beautiful summer’s day, the kids had an absolute blast playing on and with all the kids stuff, while we got to sit back as a family and tuck into some rather satisfying food.

(That said, if there is one constant disappointment when visiting The Carnival area at Weltevreden is that the service there is really, really poor. I think we’ve been there now four or five times in total, and each and every time we have come away complaining about how bad the service actually is! Pity.)

Nevertheless, the kids had an absolute ball, and that is what it really is all about, isn’t it?

Anyway, Chantelle and I are still overdue for a proper dining session at Lekke Neh (which really looks good), so yeah, I reckon we’ll be popping in there a couple of times more before they close up shop for the winter season…

Oh, and of course when I could grab a moment, I did wander around a bit in order to snap a few pictures of this beautiful estate (which incidentally has an official heritage status – it was declared a National Monument in 1975!).

Bonus: In case you are keen on discovering this great little gem for yourself, here is a nice and nifty map:

Kids Birthday Parties at Gan Eden Farm in Durbanville (2016-11-26) Photo Gallery 22 DEC 2016

By sheer chance, we discovered this great little kids party venue in Durbanville thanks to two of our friends independently deciding to host their child’s birthday there – meaning that in the space of a couple of weeks, Jess and Emily twice got to ride on a tractor trailer, feed the horses and grab an egg from a chicken!

First up was Logan’s dress-up party which the girls thoroughly enjoyed, followed a couple of weeks later by Lizzy’s birthday celebration.

Both Michelles (yes, both Logan and Lizzy’s moms are named Michelle) opted to have their kid’s party at Gumboot Parties which are based at Gan Eden farm in Durbanville (just past where the new Reddam school is being built).

They cater for the younger kids (that said, they do have an Amazing Race or Boeresport party offering for the older kids), with their farm party being held in a nice little closed off play area that has loads of jungle gym and play equipment scattered about, as well as a big tented area for the food/presents/adults.

The basic party package entitles the kids to a tractor ride (which they all love!), a chance to feed both the pigs and horses, as well as to collect a fresh hen’s egg from the chicken coop.

None of our kids grow up on a farm so of course this is great fun for them all, so needless to say, both parties were a big hit for both Jessica and Emily. (Although Emily wasn’t necessarily that comfortable around the big horses!)

Also, Logan’s party had a Piñata – and you can never go wrong with a Piñata.

A handy map for when your kid gets invited to a party there:

(Also, seeing as you are in the area anyway, you might want to pop in to the new Xpresso takeaway coffee shop in Durbanville – their gimmick is that absolutely everything in the shop is priced at R10! Even more amazing is that even at that price point, the coffee and pastries are actually very good!)

Jessica’s Bellville Birthday Party (2015-11-14) Photo Gallery 26 NOV 2015

This year Jessica had two birthday parties courtesy of Chantelle, one for Jess’ local school and complex friends (celebrated at Mondeor), and one for all the family and our friends in Bellville (celebrated at Monty and Cheryl’s house).

The theme was once again Frozen (of course), and this time around Chantelle went all out in terms of decorations and setup, with her and her little helpers (Cheryl, Monty, and Tarryn) working super hard on Saturday morning to setup the perfect Frozen-themed kiddie party!

(Whilst Emily, Jess and I bode our time by playing, shopping and walking among trees! All in the name of keeping the little ones from getting under foot!)

The cake was a spectacular, flowing Elsa dress cake, which was complemented by a host of yummy treats for both the kids and the adults alike.

Blue and white decorations filled the patio and back garden, but even more fun was all the activity stations that Chantelle had organised, each tackling a different Frozen-based theme (like building a snowman, taking Frozen themed photos, etc.).

Stars of the show were however the excellent face painter and balloon animal wrangler that Chantelle had hired, with the two of them faced with a literal never ending line of little ones having things painted and shapes twisted!

We had great weather, fantastic food, lots of friends and loads of fun – all the ingredients needed to make this without a doubt Jessica’s best birthday party ever!

(And yes, she loved opening all the presents at the end of the day as well…)

Jessica’s Mondeor Restaurant Birthday Party (2015-11-13) Photo Gallery 22 NOV 2015

For some or other reason, Chantelle decided to challenge herself by having not one, but two birthday parties for Jessica (turning five) this year.

The first one would be for all the local Gordon’s Bay friends (i.e. from Vergeet-My-Nie playschool and our Country Mews complex), and the second one for our family and other friends out in Bellville.

To be fair, Chantelle didn’t want to do setup twice, so the first birthday party was organised to be held at Mondeor Garden Restaurant, the same place we had Jessica’s fourth birthday party last year.

Jessica had decided on a Frozen themed party in the end (originally she was leaning towards a super hero Barbie party, but changed her mind at the last moment, much to Chantelle’s relief), and as such dictated that no boys were allowed at her princess party, the girls had to all wear dresses and have plaits in their hair (not that she wore one on the day mind you!), and of course, that she needed a Elsa cake for her birthday.

Mondeor is actually very nice for hosting kiddie birthday parties, as they do a pretty cool little setup for the kids, have a great outdoor play area for the little guys to run riot (sucks if it’s raining though – which is actually what happened a few weekends before on Lisa’s – one of Jessica’s friends – birthday party), and have more than enough space, seating and menu options to keep the adults pretty happy for the duration of the chaos too.

In the end I think that we had about 10 or 12 little girls having a thoroughly fun time on a Friday afternoon which brought pretty okay weather along with it, whilst all us big people happily chilled at a long table with wine and pizza pretty much flowing all session long.

So, Jess loved her cake, had a great time with her friends, and also got loads of cool gifts from everyone – sounds like a successful fifth birthday party to me! :)

Jessica’s Fourth Birthday Party (2014-11-16) Photo Gallery 02 JUL 2015

So somehow we’re already in July now. Which of course means that we are hurtling towards the end of the year, which in turn then means that we’re hurtling towards Jessica’s fifth birthday party this coming November!

Which completely reminds me – other than the post detailing my bad knee injury (but with a spectacular fall) on the day, I never actually got around to posting the few photos I hastily snapped on what was the perfect day for my perfect little girl.

So let’s rectify that then shall we?

The party was held at the fantastic Mondeor Restaurant in Somerset West (next to the new Cape Garden Centre) who kind of specialise in hosting kiddies parties.

Lots of our family and friends, and friends’ kids, joined us on a very My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic themed day, and thanks to the gorgeous sunny weather, everyone had an absolute ball.

(Jess was particularly proud of the fact that as far as she was concerned, she was dressed exactly as Rainbow Dash would be!)

The snacks and food were great, Chantelle’s two tier My Little Pony cake was a hit, and of course, the kid’s treats were spot on.

Naturally, loads of fun was had (and time spent) in the splash pool, and so as it is pretty plain to see by now – Jessica’s fourth birthday party was definitely a big hit on the day! :)

Needless to say, Jessica was also pretty chuffed that her My Little Pony collection grew a little in the process…
