Darkstalkers Cosplay: Lilith Aensland (Ushijima Iiniku) Cosplay 01 NOV 2014

Usually Japanese cosplayer and exhibitionist Iiniku Ushijima can be found taking selfies in the mirror in various stages of undress. This time around though, she’s fully clothed and wearing the garb of Lilith Aensland, the slightly more cheerful sister of Darkstalker’s Morrigan Aensland.

Lilith Aensland is a creation of Jedah spawning from his theft of a segment of power that Belial Aensland had previously split from Morrigan and sealed away in an isolated location in order to keep his daughter’s total formidable power from raging out of control. However, after Belial’s death, the stashed power suspiciously develops a will of its own. Jedah attempts to capitalize on this turn of events by stealing the power and crafting it a physical form that would become Lilith, herself a succubus and essentially a younger, childlike clone of Morrigan. In exchange for being given life, she would lure Morrigan and the other Darkstalkers into Majigen, which she identifies as her birthplace. Lilith lives blissfully until realizing she is not an original being but merely a part of another person. Meanwhile, Morrigan does not feel as close a connection to Lilith as much as the other way around; in response, Jedah manipulates Lilith to meet Morrigan in person so he can use them both to extend his power, but Lilith becomes aware that Jedah has been lying to her in regards to her existence.

Lilith, whose name was inspired by the mythological Lilith, was designed as a female character but Darkstalkers 3 scenario writer/planner Haruo Murata wanted her to be a hermaphrodite or a “male daughter” with a shorter hair and a completely flat chest; when the game was released, the character’s gender was officially listed as “unknown”. Lilith has made crossover appearances in Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes, Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars, Pocket Fighter, Capcom Fighting Evolution, Namco x Capcom, and Cross Edge, usually appearing together with Morrigan.

Darkstalkers, is a series of 2D fighting games developed and published by Capcom, beginning with Darkstalkers: The Night Warriors in 1994. The series is set in a pastiche Gothic horror universe and features a highly stylized, cartoonish graphic style. It features characters based on either various kinds of monsters (the titular “darkstalkers”) or their hunters, who are all engaging in combat against each other.

Besides video games, the Darkstalkers media franchise also includes an anime miniseries, an American cartoon TV series, a Canadian comic book series, and many books of various kinds and other media released only in Japan.

Shakugan no Shana Cosplay: Shana (Yaya) Cosplay 04 SEP 2013

Today’s cosplay entry borrows a character from Yashichiro Takahashi’s successfull light novel series (and anime adaptation), Shakugan no Shana, played out by the rather talented Japanese cosplayer: Yaya!

[image removed at request of copyright holder]

In the never-ending battle to ensure balance in this world, Shakugan no Shana’s Shana technically bears no name and is only interested in one thing – slicing up anything that would effect the balance. Befriending by a Torch unlike any other, Yuji Sakai, Shana is gifted the name mainly because a) it gives Yuji something to call her and b) it is better than being called by her full title which is Flame-Haired Blazing-Eyed Hunter.

She is what is called a Flame Haze and wields a nodachi named Nietono no Shana. Although not human, she does seem to carry many of their traits, and as her relationship with the Torch named Yuji deepens, so she as a character further evolves.

Oh, and she has a disturbing love for all things melon bread.

Soulcalibur IV Cosplay: Cassandra (Mogu Cosplay) Cosplay 04 NOV 2012

Popular fighting game franchise Soulcalibur gets a look in for this cosplay shoot, showing off the fine skills of Italian cosplayer Mogu Cosplay (aka Gabriella), as she picks up her sword and shield as Cassandra!

Cassandra Alexandra is the younger sister of series character Sophitia, and in Soulcalibur II set out on her own to destroy the cursed sword Soul Edge, continuing her quest in Soulcalibur III after realizing the sword still existed. She returns in Soulcalibur IV, encountering a man who sensed the fragment of Soul Edge that she carried. After defeating him, he fled, but told her of a “holy stone” with the power to dispel evil. Hearing rumors of a man with a large mass of crystal (Siegfried) on his way to Ostrheinsburg, she reasoned he carried the “Holy Stone” and sought to destroy Soul Edge, and followed him.

Cassandra was designed in mind to have greater determination than Sophitia, with greater physical abilities and skills. Unlike her sister whose skills originate from her weapons and Hephaestus, Cassandra is not as humble and cannot hear him, relying instead on her own strength.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars Cosplay: Ahsoka Tano (Mogu Cosplay) Cosplay 22 SEP 2012

The primary protagonist of 2008’s animated Star Wars: The Clone Wars movie, Ahsoka Tano gets brought to life in this stunning cosplay by Italian cosplayer Mogu Cosplay (aka Gabriella).

Ahsoka Tano was discovered by Master Plo Koon. Abandoned by her parents she knew little about them and so is raised in the Jedi Temple. She graduates to Padawan at an early age, both due to the ongoing Clone Wars and as an effort by Master Yoda to teach Anakin Skywalker a greater sense of responsibility.

She wields a green lightsaber and wears a Togruta-inspired outfit that includes the akul-tooth headdress (a surprising feat for someone her age).

Ahsoka displays the same type of rash and rebellious behavior that Anakin is known for. She adopts a highly informal attitude towards her new Master and tends to address individuals by nicknames; for example, Anakin is known as “Sky Guy” and R2-D2 is referred to as “Artooey”. Anakin in turn refers to her as “Snips”, in reference to her “snippy” attitude when they first met.

And now you know.

Sailor Moon S Cosplay: Sailor Saturn (Mogu Cosplay) Cosplay 12 AUG 2012

Popular Italian cosplayer Mogu Cosplay (aka Gabriella) turns to her girly side as she grabs her very own Silence Glaive and dons the pretty purple skirt of Hotaru Tomoe, a.k.a. Sailor Saturn, from the Sailor Moon S arc.

Hotaru Tomoe is a sweet, lonely young girl whose name remains unchanged in the English versions, though pronounced slightly different. The daughter of a mad scientist, a terrible laboratory accident in Hotaru’s youth significantly compromised her health in the anime – and destroyed a large portion of her body (which was later rebuilt with electronic components by her father) in the manga.

After overcoming the darkness that has surrounded her family, Hotaru is able to become the Soldier of Death and Rebirth, Sailor Saturn.

She is often pensive, and as a human has the inexplicable power to heal others. She is the only one of the main characters to go with her name unchanged between the original Japanese and English-language localized versions. Sailor Saturn’s weapon of choice is her Silence Glaive, which aids her with her power to generate barriers and the power to destroy a planet.
