New Year’s Lunch with the Lotters (2015-01-01) Photo Gallery 08 JAN 2015

After spending a lovely evening out with Damen, Michelle and Ryan for New Year’s Eve, the actual 1st of January was dominated with a trip out to Mom and Dad’s house in order to celebrate the New Year with a big family lunch.

Despite Chantelle working for the first half of the day (she would join us later in Bellville), Jess, Emily and I made an early trek through to the Northern Suburbs, where we joined Ryan, Riley, Claire (with the boys), and Granny Lotter in chilling at Mom and Dad’s pad. Lots of conversation, lots of swimming (though Emily wasn’t quite so keen on the cold water), and lots of relaxation as Mom and Dad scurried about preparing the feast, was the order of the morning.

Lunch was absolutely delicious as expected (so much variety!), Jessica and Emily enjoyed themselves on the day (as did Gran I suspect), and when Chantelle finally did join us after work, we immediately (well, after she had first eaten – hey, we’re not monsters) made her put on her new boardshorts that she had received for Christmas and got her in the water (a rare treat for Jessica who was absolutely thrilled at the opportunity to swim with Mommy!).

We even dug out an old Polyotter (from when Claire, Ryan and I were kids) to see if it would be useful for Jess, but after a couple of tries we quickly decided that drowning our child with an ancient flotation device is probably not the best of ways to teach her how to swim! :)

A Duo of Weekend Updates My Life 04 MAR 2013

Monday and thus the start of what is sure to be another week of hard code development, thanks to all the shit I have to deal with at work at the moment thanks to some ineptitudes displayed by my former colleagues. Never mind that though, I have in fact enjoyed two rather nice weekends in a row now, the first being our fun getaway with the Lotter Clan to Pinnacle Point in Mossel Bay two weekends ago, followed by the weekend just past which was little more than a weekend of pure rest and relaxation!

As for our Pinnacle Point weekend, we joined up with Mom, Dad, Ryan, Claire and little Devon on the Saturday afternoon and stayed until Tuesday afternoon, meaning that it was a good and proper little getaway from home. Of course, this didn’t help Chantelle’s cause much because on her return she was pretty much chained to the kitchen for the new couple of nights playing catch-up, but for Jess and me it was an absolute blast. Plenty of swimming and road trips to George and Mossel Bay were had, lots of good food was consumed, Jessica finally got acquainted with a proper trampoline, and we even squeezed in a birthday lunch with my Mom in Mossel Bay harbour on the Tuesday afternoon before we left!

As for this weekend it was really a weekend of lazing about and doing as little as possible. Probably the only thing we did achieve on Saturday was to go out and do paint shopping in preparation of our house being painted this week (turned out to be a rather quick decision in terms of what colour to go for), as well as some on the spur of the moment DIY as I finally got around to putting up key hangers everywhere! Sunday was a slightly more productive day in that we drove through to Bellville in order to tuck into a properly delicious pork roast lunch with the Montgomery Clan, not to mention drool at the simple but delicious dessert that followed up such a succulent main!

Unfortunately the T20 Proteas versus Pakistan game was a disaster for us South Africans, I was well and truly beaten by Rob at the dart board, and let’s not mention my poor run in this year’s Super Rugby Superbru tournament, but at least I did get something going my way in that I finally managed to find a new pair of shorts to fit me, not to mention this awesome building brick tipper truck present I got for Jess – which proved to be an absolute hit! :)

So yup, had two enjoyable weekends in a row, meaning that I’m now refreshed and ready to tackle this pile of steaming turd which passes off as a project in desperate need of saving here at work. Sigh…

Damen’s Birthday and a Montgomery Stronghold Visit My Life 14 APR 2010

Like I mentioned earlier, this weekend turned out not to be all that awesome, despite all the cool things that were actually going on around me. Stupid mighty morphing sickness!

Anyway, Friday evening kicked off with Chantelle preparing us some awesome fishcake burgers for supper before we jetted out in Gina G. on route to catch Steve Carrel and Tina Fey in Date Night at Ster Kinekor, Somerset Mall. The movie turned out not to be completely brainless comedy like I was expected and in the end we both pretty much enjoyed it – all I’m saying is watch out for the rotate around the pole dancing segment – you’ll be in hysterics! :)

Saturday morning we were out and about quite early already, riding all the way through to Cape Town in order to pick up Chantelle’s wedding ring which had gone in for repairs to the jeweller a week or so before (one of the diamonds had popped out of the engagement ring segment of the wedding ring). That pickup went pretty smoothly and so it was a change of direction and off to Durbanville in order to catch Andy in her newly opened games store, Games Exctera (more or less that spelling I think), sitting in 22 Oxford Street, Durbanville main.

The sun ever so sharp off a bakkie's back window, driver Craig had no other choice than to pluck Chantelle's sunglasses right off her head in order to protect his fragile eyes!

I must say I was pleasantly surprised by the size store she managed to lay her hands on and with a good selection of XBOX 360, PS2, WII and PC titles, both new and secondhand, and with decent prices for game trade-ins, I’ve got a feeling that she’s not going to do too badly in this new venture of hers! :)

From there the sickly Craig carted Chantelle off towards Damen and Michelle’s pad, in order to join in on the manly gaming session part of Damen’s day-long birthday celebrations, with only one small snag getting in the way of arriving more or less on time – I managed to get the two of us horribly lost and in Kraaifontein of all places.

Needless to say, again not one of my proudest moments and so out came the GPS and by hook or by crook we made it back to the general vicinity where we needed to be and I joined Damen and Dean for some intense Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer battles while Chantelle stole Gina G. and went to enjoy her Saturday elsewhere.

Dean and Doctor Karl trying to figure out how the Wii works (you'll note the bemused Craig in the background as well)...

Of course, one can only game for so many hours and when the prescribed time finally arrived, the wives and rest of the friends (even little Zandea came along for the ride!) descended upon Damen’s safehaven and so out came the charcoal and meat and what ensued what a great braai, featuring a chocolate fountain, ice cream, salad, snackies, Wii-playing, Lips karoake (Terrance’s fault again!), and just general fooling about get together in celebration of Damen’s 29th Birthday.

Chantelle giving it her all in karoke battle against Terrance and Trish!

Not feeling particularly great by this stage of course, I’m kind of glad we had already made plans to sleep over at Mom’s place on the night, and so after saying our goodbyes, Chantelle drove me to my old home where we sat down and had a bit of a chat with Mom and Pops (who was watching the Masters of course!) before I bid them goodnight and sunk into a restless but necessary sleep.

(Oh, but before I forget, has anyone of you tried dipping boerewors in the liquid chocolate that comes out of a chocolate fountain? Wow, what an awesome taste sensation – it’s brilliant I tell you!)

Sunday morning Chantelle and I decided to skip our initial plans of going through to Church as the sickly Craig (and Chantelle who was starting to develop the same symptons that I had when it first started) needed all the sleep he could get, meaning that the morning was pretty much wasted away in bed and in front of the television.

But of course, that couldn’t last all day, oh no, not in the lives of Craig and Chantelle, as by noon it was time to get showered, changed and ready, before setting off to hit the Montgomery stronghold for a day of family braai, darts and conversation. We were joined by my mom and pops as well as Retha and Miguel and the day turned into a pleasant get together, even if both Rob and I were forced to retire early and crawl into bed while the rest continued to party without us!

From there it was a late evening back into GB where to be honest, not much else happened other than some manga reading, ice cream munching, feeling sorry for one’s self and movie watching (The Mummy was awesome to see again!), before jumping into bed for a well deserved, but probably more needed than anything else, deep rest.

And that my friends is the tale of this weekend past. Not particularly exciting I suppose, but certainly filled to the brim with damp tissues and coughed out bits of lung! :P

And what post featuring Lips would be complete without a photo featuring the king of karoke, Mr. Terrance himself! :P

Tries and Bullseyes My Life 16 MAR 2010

This weekend past didn’t offer up all that much in terms of news, mostly because Chantelle spend Friday evening in Bellville preparing for Andri’s Stork Party that she was organizing for Saturday morning and finishing Alita’s son’s 21st key-themed birthday cake for delivery that evening, leaving me to my own devices which in the end meant watching anime, Stripperella and inserting increased advertising across the CodeUnit and Rugged Rock blogs. Exciting, I know! :P

Similarly, for the most part of Saturday I did the ordinary things like household chores, i.e. dishes, washing, D.I.Y. etc. mixed in with yet more Stripperella and even some Tomb Raider (whose backdrops are really breathtaking by the way), as well as penning a number of blog posts for scheduling here in these pages.

But come early evening and I was in my lovely Jetta Jameson and on my way to Bellville, to hook up with the Montgomery household and indulge in an evening which was to include a delicious steak braai, an exhilarating four man battle of darts and taking in the quite frankly astounding Stormers game on the telly. Oh, and indulging in left over Stork party snacks and goodies of course!

As for our impromptu darts game, I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed picking up the old projectiles once again, and at the end of the day, Chantelle and I came nicely back in our game of Killer versus Monty and Cheryl, with Chantelle even managing to bag a Cherry Bull in basically her first darts game ever. For the most part we were playing catch-up and fell horribly behind on points, but when the open numbers finally dried up and only the bulls were left open, all of a sudden we were hitting them left right and center and came within striking distance of claiming the game, stopped only by a beautiful cherry thrown by Monty just as we were running out of time thanks to the impending Stormers game.

Speaking of the Stormers game, wow our boys are really looking good this season. Excellent defense (pity about that last gift try we gave away though) as per usual but for a change, a beautiful attack and I really can’t help but feel confident of our chances heading into the overseas leg of our campaign!

Sunday morning Chantelle and I slept in a bit and after lazing about the morning, we finally headed out to the mall to purchase some picture frames and print some wedding photos for placing in the pad – after all, it’s been four or five months already and we still haven’t sent out our thank you cards, never mind even printed a picture for proud display in our home!

I followed up our impromptu shopping trip by taking Chantelle out to lunch at JennaVIVA, a new favourite of hers and a delightfully upmarket-decorated establishment on the outskirts of mainland Somerset West I must say. Their menu and food quality is impeccable, the vibe seems like it really has the potential to be nice and surprisingly enough, their prices suits one’s pockets quite nicely. Imagine that! :)

Evening was spent being disappointed that one of the frames we bought was damaged and needs to be returned, hanging the other up in the lounge using double-sided tape to great effect, doing household things like folding up the washing and surprisingly enough finishing up the night with KFC and loads of Stripperella.

And that’s about it as far as I can remember. Nothing too memorable to report back on, apart from the darts of course.

Now that really was cool to play again…
