Easter 2013 and a Few Weekends After That My Life 17 APR 2013

Oopsie, I really haven’t been posting much to the blog lately have I? (Hint: If you see continuous comic book art, cosplay or joke posts, then you can be sure that the blog is running on autopilot mode.) The truth is that I simply haven’t felt like sitting down to write down my thoughts or recollect the happenings of the past week for quite a while now, and besides, I have been far to preoccupied in the evenings anyway, what with finally finishing up on Chantelle’s now finally completed Cookies & Cakes website, playing loads of Lord of the Ring: War in the North multi-player with Ryan (not to mention all the epic FIFA battles), and actually sitting down to watch some excellent movies like Serenity (thoroughly enjoyable) and Dark Knight Returns Part 2 (even more so)!

So what is worth mentioning that you might have missed out on? Well Easter 2013 was a little bit of a let down thanks to poor weather and no Internet service for the duration of the long weekend. What it did however involve was plenty of trips through to the mall, Easter egg fun with Jessica, loads of quality family time, a thoroughly enjoyable braai evening with Mom, Dad, Ryan and Michelle that culminated in a VERY entertaining game of 30 Seconds, followed by a delectable selection of cupcakes for dessert. Other highlights were a stop for Belgian Waffles at the Belgian Waffle House in Strand, the purchase of plastic bowling pins for Jessica, and the making of our own mouth-watering pizza to eat while watching the frankly rather disappointing final instalment in the Twilight movie series.

The next couple of weekends after that saw lots of gaming for me in terms of multi-player Lord of the Rings: War in the North, even more quality family time with Chantelle and Jessica (hello Stodels!), the occasional feeding of the ducks in Strand, a surprise visit from Monty and Cheryl to say hello to little Jess who had said that she was missing them, and probably the most enjoyable of them all, a big braai evening with Andri, Malcolm, Gary and Michelle, with the kids all playing together and the adults eventually getting stuck into some seriously competitive 30 Seconds battles, though we had to ease the rules a little for the ladies, resulting in the girls playing 45 Seconds as opposed to the guys’ 30 Seconds! :)

Oh, and I headed out to Newlands to catch a Stormers game, the first time I’ve been to Newlands in absolute years!

Okay, that’s probably everything that really needed mentioning, so now that we’re all caught up, I’ll do my best to start posting things more regularly to these here pages!

Probably.

Easter Eggs in January! My Life 10 FEB 2013

I couldn’t believe my eyes when I first saw Easter Eggs being advertised on television the other day, never mind the fact that I nearly died of shock when I bumped into this in our local Pick ‘n Pay just a couple of days back:

Seriously?!? Easter eggs in January?!?

I can only imagine that this is a bit of a money grab on the part of Beacon, who I assume are hoping to get people to start expanding on Easter Egg season, thereby lengthening the window of opportunity and profit for Beacon’s well established Easter treats.

That said, I think they might have tried their luck a little too much on this one. Can’t see anyone thinking that this is actually a good idea!

Easter Weekend 2011 My Life 09 MAY 2011

Admittedly, Easter Weekend 2011 was probably not the most awesome or exciting of Easter periods I’ve ever had, but this one did come with enough variety in activities (and chocolate) to not make it a bad one! ;)

A view of the ocean from Pringle Bay on a stunning Saturday afternoon!

Seeing as our disposable money levels aren’t yet recovered (sigh, I wonder if it will ever recover), it was no going away this year for the two of us, a pity because for a change Chantelle was actually off for the weekend!

Anyway, Friday evening, as all Friday evenings have pretty much become, was a pretty laid back affair, with us doing the daily routine of getting little Jessie-bean fed, bathed and ready for bed, Chantelle then grabbing the opportunity to get to bed early-ish (shame, she has a lot of admin like expressing and getting milk ready each and every night before she can turn in!) for a change, and me the opportunity to put my feet up and take in some entertainment, be it in the form of manga, anime, television or gaming, or my particular favourite, a Jackie Chan movie – watching South African actors in “Who am I?” was so much fun!

Saturday we decided to make the best of the beautiful weather, and after some work in the garden while Chantelle got Jessie all ready to go, we hit the coastal road enjoyed a scenic (well we had to because we were stuck in a line of cars behind one rather leisurely driver) trip past Rooi Els and into Pringle Bay, where we first dawdled around (and changed nappy), before ending up at our usual spot at the delightful, if a little overpriced, @365 restaurant for some yummy lunch and most importantly, delicious dessert!

(This actually marked the first time we had taken Jessica into an eating establishment with us, and because we were prepared with bottle at hand, it went really, really well!)

We followed this up with a lazy drive through to Betty’s Bay, marvelled at the huge sand dunes and commented on how big the sleepy coastal spot seems to have gotten since last we were there (we say the same thing every time), before turning around and driving home.
