Frazer Irving: 2000AD #1256 Cover (2001) Comic Book Art | Comic Books 03 MAR 2012

Back when British artist Frazer Irving first started making waves with his work on the venerable 2000AD, he was primarily known for his excellent and stylish horror work, particularly on titles like Necronauts, Judge Death and Tharg’s Terror Tales.

However, that didn’t stop him from being picked on in order to provide some cover work for the magazine, and so come issue 1256, out came a dazzlingly detailed rendition of a snarling Nikolai Dante, weapons crest at the ready!

Now just imagine they had actually asked him to handle the art chores on the story itself!

British comic book artist Frazer Irving has turned out to be somewhat of a premiere horror artist, churning out some fiendishly good work for 2000 AD in the past, before going on to make some big waves in the American comic book scene.

Apart from his acclaimed black and white art on Necronauts and his more groovy pencils on the psychedelic Storming Heaven, Frazer Irving also provided the haunting visuals for John Wagner’s Judge Death: My Name is Death and Judge Death: The Wilderness Days story lines.

And of course, when the time came around to collect My Name is Death as a trade paperback, what better to wrap it in than this fantastically dark image courtesy of Mr. Irving!

Shaun of the Dead is the rightful cult king in terms of British zombie films, finding that perfect balance between horror, zombie, romance, black humour and all out laughs.

As a tie in with the movie, director Edgar Wright and main honcho Simon Pegg joined forces with artist Frazer Irving to produce a Shaun of the Dead related tail, “There is something about Mary”.

Needless to say, the talented and moody Mr. Irving needed to whip up a decent cover to mark the occasion covered by 2000AD issue 1384, and as you can see, no problem there!
