How this latest Electricity Price Hike really Kicks you in the Balls! General Nonsense 07 JUL 2011

So the 1st of the month has rolled buy and yet another round of Eskom’s outrageous price hikes has kicked in, and I thought I would give you a nice little example of how this big percentage price increase actually kicks you in the balls.

On the 26 June 2011, I bought 186 units for R150. For some or other reason, we burned through those pretty quickly and I needed to buy again, so on the 03 July 2011, I paid in another R200… and received a measly 163 units!

That’s right, for a whole R50 more I received 23 units less!

And of course they decide to do this in the middle of winter, a time when it is common knowledge that a household’s energy consumption is higher than normal!

It’s shameful really.

Sigh, and I really don’t have any other lamps I can replace to those stupid looking energy saver ones…

(Oh, and on that note I’ve found a new website to purchase my electricity through, following PayCity’s disastrous attempts at trying to implement the 3D Secure technology for my credit card. I got tired of phoning up the bank every time the thing failed and have now moved on to PowerTime which so far is treating me pretty well…)

Petrol Price Push General Nonsense 02 DEC 2007

The good news: I travel to work by train. The bad news: I travel to Gordon’s Bay by car.

If any of you are lost, then you should be aware that of Wednesday this week, the price of all grades of petrol is going up by a massive 43 cents a litre.

This increase has been on the cards for a while now, thanks to all market fears over supply etc., so it is not like we didn’t know that it was coming, but still, 43 cents per litre extra is a lot to cough up at a visit to the pumps.

I wonder if bicycle sales have been on the increase lately and if SUV owners are kicking themselves yet?

Fuel for Thought General Nonsense 03 OCT 2007

Nuts. I knew petrol was going up by 10 cents per litre sometime this week, but I only found out that it happened last night this morning :(

Oh well, guess a couple of Rands extra aren’t going to hurt me too much. Except of course for all this driving to Gordon’s Bay. That’s a petrol sapper and a half (at least the pay-off for going there is worth it!)

Hmm…I wonder how many people are actively looking at switching to diesel?
