Tomb Raider – Legend Cosplay: Lara Croft (Alison Carroll) Cosplay 06 NOV 2013

After the disaster that was Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness, which threatened to completely sink the franchise, development duties was taken away from Core and handed over to Crystal Dynamics, who went on to release the critically acclaimed Tomb Raider: Legend in 2006, once again restoring Tomb Raider to its rightful status amongst gamers.

At one point English gymnast, model, and actress Alison Carroll was appointed as the official Lara Croft persona, which as you can see, is something she managed to pull off quite convincingly!

Lara Croft is the self assured thrill seeker, treasure hunter and archaeologist, on which the Tomb Raider series hinges, and is never seen without her handy dual wield pistols, heavy boots and of course comfortable shorts.

Once again Crystal Dynamics took her into some pretty spectacular and uncharted places, where there was plenty of platforming, puzzle solving and the occasional seeing off of beasties to take care of. Amongst the locations visited includes Tiwanaku (Bolivia), Paraiso (Peru), Tokyo (Japan), Ghana, Kazakhstan, Cornwall (Great Britain), and the Himalayas (Nepal).

As for the story? Well as you can well imagine, it revolves around some pretty ancient and mysterious relics once again!

Noted French Tomb Raider cosplayer Illyne celebrates Legend in this shoot, once again picking up Lara Croft’s dual pistols and slipping into something a little… shorter.

The Animated Character Single-Item Wardrobe Syndrome My Life 21 NOV 2012

The Animated Character Single-Item Wardrobe Syndrome. This is something that Chantelle picked up on a while ago, noting that in all the various animated television series that I watch, the characters always pretty much wear a single change of clothing.

Of course, we all know that it helps with character recognition and thus makes sense to do, but outside of that, it is pretty hard to explain without looking too silly.

Anyway, the the other day while I was hanging up our washing I noted that 95% of our washing line was decked out in black garments, with the remaining 5% light. And then it struck me: for the last year or so I have pretty much worn two variations of the same outfit for each and every day – either a plain black t-shirt and my light long shorts when I’m out and about or stuck at work, or alternatively a plain white t-shirt and black shorts when I’m relaxing at home.

Gasp, I’m just like a cartoon character!

Chantelle must SO be tired of my fashion by now – still, there’s always the bright side.

At least I make it easier for her to recognise me! :)

Tomb Raider: Underworld Cosplay: Lara Croft (Illyne) Cosplay 26 AUG 2012

Hands down one of the best Lara Croft cosplayers around, French cosplayer Illyne once again tackles this iconic female gaming character, grabbing her guns and strutting her stuff as the Lara Croft from the Tomb Raider: Underworld release.

The thrill seeking, gun toting archaeologist with a taste for adventure, Lara Croft returned in Tomb Raider: Underworld, released in 2008 for Eidos by development house Crystal Dynamics, who had previously produced Tomb Raider: Legend and Tomb Raider: Anniversary.

Underworld is the eighth instalment in the Tomb Raider game series, and its story continues on from the events in Tomb Raider: Legend, but in the process also addresses unexplained plot elements that came from the Tomb Raider: Anniversary remake of the original 1996 Tomb Raider release.

Again this action adventure platformer has Lara solving tricky puzzles, interacting with her environments and taking on a host of opponents and creatures with her trusty dual pistols, shotgun and submachine guns, and for a change, often doing all of this at once!

A new melee combat system was added and an interesting adrenaline moment system was introduced to replace the specific button press sequences that had littered the previous Crystal Dynamics’ games.

Once again Lara is pushed all over the place during the course of the adventure, with settings including the Mediterranean Sea, Niflheim, Coastal Thailand, England, Southern Mexico, Jan Mayen Island, the Andaman Sea and finally the Arctic Sea!

So in other words, just another day for the hard working Lara! ;)

A Ripped Decision General Nonsense | My Life 06 SEP 2010

I only have two shorts which I wear on a daily basis. Scratch that, of this weekend I have no shorts that I wear on a daily basis – a tragic loss that drove me straight to the mall and straight into overheated malice in the process.

The first of my beautiful cargo shorts to go was the sand coloured one, which inexplicably formed a tear above the back pocket which Chantelle duly pointed out to me. Not worth the repair, it was straight to the bin with shorts number 1. So backup no 2 was whipped out, my trusty green cargo shorts, also from Pick ‘n Pay’s fairly good Cherokee clothing range.

However, my faithful green shorts suffered an inhumane fate during my gardening stint in our new home’s garden late Saturday morning, ripping itself to shreds with an accompanying ungodly scream of tearing material as I bent down on my haunches to pluck out a particularly stubborn weed.

Bugger.

I hate shopping.

Or rather I hate clothing shopping, particularly if I can’t find something that fits me. And this is particularly true of pants, now that I find myself in the unenviable position of requiring huge XXL t-shirts and size 44 shorts to go along with it. Sure 42 size waists fit me, but thanks to my big thighs that’s about all that goes around me – sitting down with them would be inviting disaster to strike if my green shorts were anything to go by!

And believe you me, finding size 44’s in your bog standard clothing store chains appear to be next to impossible, what with them catering for all the normal (read tiny) sized men at the expense of us more manly, filled out gentlemen.

A frustrating search and try on experience at both Pick ‘n Pay Clothing Store and Mr. Price did in the end yield up an okay olive green cargo pants that will suffice for now, but the process of scratching through every single pants-bearing shelf in sight and standing in the seemingly never-ending queues that seem forever present in clothing stores was enough to spoil my afternoon and leave me fuming rather hot under the collar. (This was of course not helped by my big toe poking a great big hole in my sock during this horrible shopping experience).

And then I remembered – I need to go next weekend again to try and find that elusive second pair of shorts.

You know, as a spare considering my current luck with pants…

(I apologize for this seemingly pointless article. I’m tired from all the work at the new home this weekend and couldn’t seem to come up with anything more intelligent to say. I’ll try better the next time, promise…)
