A Year of life in the Helderberg (2019-12-31) Photo Gallery 25 APR 2020

So with the 2016, 2017 and 2018 image dump posts of all the photos which aren’t linked to a blog post now sitting all safe and sound with my web host, I guess that I need to add the 2019 batch as well, seeing as we are now well and truly into 2020. (Also, sorry for not doing one of my annual Goodbye Hello posts at the start of this year – honestly they’ve become a little too routine to continue for now).

This particular selection features first days, sport, concerts and voting at Gordon’s Bay Primary School, Mark Haze at Die Boer in Durbanville, a turn at Home Affairs in Somerset West, the view from my office in Westlake, Ocean Basket’s Harbour Island View in Gordon’s Bay, the solar panel parking and delicious green curry from Wang Thai at The Sanctuary in Somerset West, wine and cheese tasting at Steenberg Vineyards, planes at the Stellenbosch Flying Club airstrip, views from Somerset Mall and the Helderberg Shopping Centre of all places, a Somerset West night time Christmas market, walks along the Lourens River, strolls along the Strand beach promenade, and of course scenes from our home here in beautiful little Gordon’s Bay.

Plus Belgian waffles – because those things are of course delightful.

A Year of Beach Walks in Strand (2018-12-31) Nature and Animal Attractions | Photo Gallery 25 JAN 2020

Presented here as a form of personal archival (and to get my “Unposted Photos” folder looking a little better), is a collection of random photos taken at Strand Beach (where I do the majority of my evening walks).

I have said it before, but 5 km of white sandy beach overlooking False Bay, one of the safest swimming beaches in Cape Town, surfing, kiteboarding, water slides and a tidal pool, and some pretty impressive buildings dotted along a renewed promenade – what’s not to love?

There’s a river estuary, a protected marine area, good fishing, a lifesaving club, gorgeous sunsets, and soft serve ice cream. Lots of soft serve ice cream.

Catching up with another trove of files from the “Unposted Photos” folder on my laptop, this is a whole lot of images of Strand beach taken during walks/visits in 2017.

5 km of white sandy beach overlooking False Bay, one of the safest swimming beaches in Cape Town, surfing, kiteboarding, water slides and a tidal pool, and some pretty impressive buildings dotted along a renewed promenade.

Hard not to love as a beach destination.

Beachfront Waffles from the Belgian Waffle House in Strand (2017-05-07) Food and Drink | Photo Gallery 18 OCT 2017

Going for walks on Strand beach is always nice. If you ask my girls, getting rewarded for a long walk in the sand is even better. Enter the humble Belgian Waffle.

Standing on Beach Road, tucked under the 97 on Strand building and sandwiched between an estate agent and an ice cream shop, The Belgian Waffle House is a popular spot for locals looking for a good, slightly unusual in that you don’t come across waffles all that often, family (and pocket) friendly treat while out for a day at the beach.

As you would expect, these light and fluffy, well priced waffles come with a bewildering array of topping/sauce choices, with the girls, Chantelle and myself already all having our own person favourite.

The place is almost never empty (which is probably why they don’t take bookings), and well worth keeping in mind for one of those “quick, we need shelter from the wind!” days out at the beach.

Also, the new brick and concrete beach promenade is coming on very, very nicely indeed…

(Oh, and if Strand is too far out for all the students in Stellenbosch, not to worry, they have their very own branch out that way.)
