Poison is a fictional character in the Final Fight and Street Fighter series of video games. Created by Akira Yasuda for Capcom, Poison first appeared in Final Fight alongside a similar character, Roxy, later appearing in Capcom-produced games, media and merchandise related to the Street Fighter franchise.

Originally conceived as a female thug in Final Fight and part of the game’s antagonist group, Mad Gear, concerns during the game’s development about reactions from North American audiences to fighting women, resulted in the character being re-imagined as a futanari. However, that was not considered satisfactory and both Poison and her palette swap Roxy were replaced by the male characters “Billy” and “Sid”, and have been for every subsequent North American port of the title on Nintendo consoles and handhelds.

After the Final Fight series she later appeared alongside wrestler Hugo, acting as his manager, with her schemes revolving around finding a tag team partner for him or developing their own wrestling organization. Poison was also to appear in both Capcom Fighting All-Stars and Final Fight: Streetwise; however, the former was canceled, and she was omitted from the latter as development progressed. Following those aborted attempts, she ended up appearing as a playable character on Street Fighter X Tekken. She was also added as a playable character to Ultra Street Fighter IV.

The character’s status as potentially transsexual, consciously left ambiguous by the developers, has remained a topic of frequent debate by both fans and media alike.

Sakura Kasugano is a player character from the Street Fighter series of fighting games, where she is portrayed as a young Japanese schoolgirl who idolizes Ryu, whom she wants to be trained by.

Sakura first appears in Street Fighter Alpha 2, where she participates in street fighting after watching Ryu win the first World Warrior tournament. She searches for him and wishes for him to train her to be a better fighter. She eventually comes across Ryu who after a short sparring session, tells her he could not train her as he still has much to learn himself.

In Street Fighter Alpha 3, Sakura decides to travel the world to find Ryu. After trying to save him from the warrior M. Bison, Ryu promises her a rematch. She is also playable in the spin-off Street Fighter EX3.

In Street Fighter IV, years have passed since Sakura last saw Ryu, so she decides to find Ryu again for a match in the new worldwide tournament. In introduction sequences of Super Street Fighter IV, she is often seen in a group of three with Dan Hibiki and Blanka. In Rival Schools: United By Fate, Sakura is involved in the adventure between her school and various others in Aohura City. Capcom’s creation, Chun-Li must go down as one of the legends in the all important gaming fighting genre. Making her first appearance in Street Fighter II: The World Warrior, Chun-Li has since gone on to appear in just about all subsequent Street Fighter fighting games.

Her Mandarin name of Chun (Spring) Li (Beautiful), in other words a single young girl filled with the beauty of spring, completely belies her true nature and prowess, as this battle-hardened warrior can hold her head up high amongst the toughest of them out there.

For her backstory, Chun-Li is painted as an undercover Interpol agent who enters the Street Fighter tournament in order to get closer to the enigmatic and evil M. Bison, who happens to have murdered her father. Armed with her vicious Lightning Kick, this girl is quite simply out for revenge!

One last notable thing to mention is that Chun-Li holds the honour of being the first playable female character in a fighting game, meaning she now proudly holds the title of “First Lady of Fighting Games” – among enthusiasts of course.

Street Fighter IV Cosplay: Juri Han (Taori) Cosplay 18 MAR 2014

Another cosplay entry for these pages, this time featuring a trip to the ultimate fighting franchise for our insert, none other than the king among arcade fighting games – Street Fighter! (Well Street Fighter IV to be exact). The character being profiled? Korean newcomer, Juri Han, cosplayed here by Taori!

Street Fighter IV Cosplay Juri Han by cosplayer Taori 1

The first ever Korean playable fighter, Juri is a taekwondo practitioner of note, and the series’ first ever proper female villain. An underling of the evil Seth and a member of S.I.N., Juri is a particularly nasty individual, eagerly playing off her sultry and provocative looks before decimating an opponent with her powerful kicks and ranged energy abilities, gifted by the pink Feng Shui Engine crystal embedded in her left eye.

A woman of powerful character and with an enjoyment in what she does, designer Yoshinori Ono’s “Spider” Juri is most definitely not a woman to be underestimated or crossed!

Cosplayer Taori pulls off a great mischievous and provocative Juri Han, with a lot of detail going into her spider/taekwondo costume, all pulled together of course by her rather outlandish hair style and slightly deranged look!

Street Fighter Alpha Cosplay: Cammy White (Ikuy) Cosplay 28 JAN 2014

American cosplayer Ikuy puts together a striking cosplay of the second playable female character to ever to grace the Street Fighter franchise – none other than the Brit fighting officer, Cammy White!

First appearing in Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers back in 1993, Cammy White became an instant bit hit with the fans, though she wasn’t destined to quite appear in all the subsequent titles from that point onwards. Originally a teen agent of the fictional Delta Red task force within Britain’s MI6, Cammy was written in as suffering from memory loss, making her fit in quite nicely as a member of the villainous M. Bison’s group for a start, until the writers needed something else from her in the future.

A slim girl with a scar on her cheek and a penchant for thong leotards, Cammy is a close range fighter who relies on speed and agility to penetrate her enemies’ defenses.
