I decided at the spur of the moment to meet up with Terrance and Mark at Otaku magazines first anime convention (read screening event) held at UCT over the weekend. Now I’ve been an anime fan for a long time but still live under the dark cloud of thinking that I’m one of the select few that actually watches the damn stuff.

otakumag conventionSo happily expecting a crowd of like 10 people, I was more than pleasantly surprised to hear that there was an actual queue to get inside the morning. Not even that, they even had cosplayers there. South African cosplayers? I didnt even know such a breed existed. That said, I was informed that Stellenboschs anime society boasts a membership of 600 odd strong.

It would seem that the Anime culture is steadily taking root here in South Africa at last, something I’m quite pleased about. Otaku mags continued success is a testament to this growing clique in the country.

By the way, the event was a success, so now Id guess I better go out and buy the stupid mag just to see what I’m missing out on :)
