Finally WP rugby stands a chance of regaining some of its lost ground in what has been quite frankly, a dismal start to the local season.
Former Springbok rugby flanker and Cheetahs Super 14 coach, Rassie Erasmus has landed the senior professional coaching job at Western Province Rugby it was announced today. He is going to be filling the newly created dual role of WP director of Rugby and Stormers head coach.
As a player Rassie was pretty damn good, but it has been the last couple of years as a coach that he is shining even more. Rassie comes with a wealth of practical and technical rugby knowledge as well as tons of (rather) apparent innovative flair and passion. Quite frankly, if he can do with the Stormers and Province what he did with the revitalized Cheetahs, then things are definitely going to be looking a little more rosy for Province rugby in the future!
Rassie will commence duties on August 1 and his contract extends until October 31 2010.
Okay, so maybe he does use one or two underhanded tactics – Ill admit to that – but damn it, I’m tired of losing all the time!
