Disappointingly, the electronic kitchen scale I had bought for Chantelle for Christmas from Game didn’t work right out of the box. However, as it turned out, this was quite a good thing because a) it didn’t look as nice as it did in the picture on the box, and b) I have now discovered Yuppiechef, probably the most awesome kitchen tools and appliances online store in South Africa, and in all likelihood, the source of all Chantelle’s birthday and Christmas gifts from me in the foreseeable future! :)

Yuppiechef brands themselves as an upmarket supplier of funky and cool, not quite your standard run of the mill kitchen tools and appliances, carrying an extensive list of some truly beautiful and remarkable kitchen items. And although the prices you pay for most of their stock is far higher than what you would pay for a similar type of item in one of the mass retailers like Pick ‘n Pay or Game, the fact of the matter is that most of Yuppiechef’s wares are quite simply put, works of art, so beautiful and clever in design that it will completely lift the star rating of your kitchen back home.

Anyway, I did a quick search for a replacement scale for Chantelle on their frankly amazing, quirky, clever, and most importantly, beautifully designed website (just note, it is pink – very, very pink – in other words, if you are a manly man then you may find yourself gritting your teeth for the most part), and settled on one that I thought would do this job pretty nicely – the Soehnle Siena kitchen scale.

I was thoroughly impressed with how intuitive, streamlined and simple it was to register and complete the sale via the site, and even more impressed with the fact that they offer free delivery on all South African orders.

An unexpected plus for me however is the fact that they are situated in Westlake Business Park, which just happens to be literally a few buildings to the left of where Touchwork’s offices are, meaning that my scale was ordered in the morning, and in the afternoon someone casually strolled over and dropped off the gleaming white box emblazoned with the pink Yuppiechef sealing tape!

And the class didn’t end there mind you. When Chantelle excitedly opened up her package, I was pleased to see the meticulous care towards their branding continued through to their boxing, with everything from a handwritten pink card to a magnet fridge noughts and crosses piece being present!

Very impressive, and thus certainly an online presence which will be seeing a lot more business from me – and probably Chantelle now that she knows the secret! :)

(P.S. The scale is pretty awesome as well, just in case you were wondering!)
