The Kogelberg coastal mountain range, part of the Cape Fold Belt, stretches from the Elgin valley all the way up until Kleinmond and is said to have the steepest and highest drop directly into the ocean of any southern African coastal stretch. This of course is best seen via the incredibly scenic Clarence Drive, the main route that takes one from Gordon’s Bay, past Rooi Els, Pringle Bay, Betty’s Bay and finally on to Kleinmond itself.

Situated along Clarence Drive, in the middle of the stretch between Gordon’s Bay and Rooi Els, sits the jaw-droppingly beautiful Kogel Bay Beach, an almost 2 km long stretch of sandy beach that is home to the Kogel Bay Resort camp site, the Dappat se Gat caves (which also acts as a popular, if dangerous surfing spot for the locals), and the Sparks Bay Day Camp, a popular braai and fishing spot complete with small tidal pool. Finally, right next to Sparks, there is also the even smaller Klippies Baai (aka Klippies Bay) a rocky stretch of beach that serves as another rustic (but oh so scenic) little braai spot.

As you might be able to tell from the photos below, this is an incredibly beautiful, relatively unspoiled stretch of coastline, one well worth stopping along to breathe in the fresh air and take in those incredible views of both the mountains and False Bay!

Stunning.
