Stellenbosch is home to a small aerodrome which in turn is home to the popular Stellenbosch Flying Club (who recently hosted yet another successful airshow just last month), which in addition to training pilots, managing the airfield, and being a home for all local aviators, also just so happens to sport a clubhouse. Importantly, this clubhouse has gone one step further, creating a little outdoor restaurant area and throwing open its doors to the public – which the Stellenbosch weekend public most certainly has since firmly grabbed with both hands!

Now I’ve mentioned the ribs to be had at the clubhouse of the Stellenbosch Flying Club before, but it is worth mentioning again. They’re particularly tasty, there’s beer on tap to be had, and you get to watch small planes come and go while you lick your chops clean. Hard to argue with any of that!

Also, if you like that kind of thing (which I do), you also get to spot two particularly cool fixed exhibits on display: the De Havilland Vampire (the plane that pretty much ushered in the jet age for the South African Air Force), and the more recent addition of an Angolan Bush War-era Dassault-Briguet Mirage F1 CZ.

Oh and obviously, this is Stellenbosch, so it’s pretty damn picturesque to boot.

Final Note: Emily is giving me the death stare here in the final photo because I said it was time to go when very clearly it absolutely wasn’t. Fun times.
