Although not sporting quite as colourful and trendy a vibe as nearby neighbour Kalk Bay, Muizenberg delivers in spades when it comes to doing things with the kids, be it a walk along the Zandvlei estuary, surfing lessons at Surfer’s Corner, frolicking in the waves on Muizenberg Beach, swimming in the boat-themed public Muizenberg pools, sinking a few balls on the Muizenberg Putt Putt course, strolling along the elevated promenade, or swishing down the Muizenberg Waterslides.

The long white soft sandy beach, the flanking of an incredibly array of eateries, the seemingly never ending line of surfers and kitsesurfers waiting to catch the perfect break, the rising mountain peak behind its building line, the rampant art deco stylings, and of course that iconic row of colourful (though slightly dilapidated) beach huts – this is Muizenberg!

That said, it does have its quieter moments from time to time too, which as you can see, are reasonably charming as well…

So, although not quite the resort town it used to be for Capetonians back in the day, a weekend visit to Muizenberg still makes for a great family day outing.
