Having opened in 1995 and located at the bustling V&A Waterfront, the Two Oceans Aquarium still proudly stands tall as Cape Town’s premier marine destination. Taking its name from South Africa’s unique position at the confluence of the Atlantic and Indian Oceans, the aquarium offers a unique glimpse into the marine life of both these two oceanic giants. Visitors can explore a variety of exhibits that highlight different marine habitats, including vibrant coral reefs, kelp forests, and the open ocean.

There are three major pools that serve as the highlights of the Two Oceans Aquarium, namely the Shark Exhibit, the Kelp Forest Exhibit and the Ocean Exhibit. With a mesmerizing array of fascinating marine creatures, from sharks, stingrays, turtles, eels to giant Japanese Spider Crabs, there is certainly no lack of interesting things to see and experience. The aquarium is also known for its focus on education and conservation, offering a range of educational programs and workshops aimed at raising awareness about marine biodiversity and the importance of preserving our oceans.

In addition to its captivating exhibits, the Two Oceans Aquarium is also actively involved in marine conservation and research. The aquarium participates in various initiatives aimed at protecting endangered species and rehabilitating injured marine animals. Through its efforts, the aquarium not only provides an engaging and informative experience for visitors but also contributes significantly to the conservation of South Africa’s marine ecosystems.

As for this set of photos, well this particular visit to the aquarium took place in early 2021 when the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic was more or less starting to ease off and freedom of movement (albeit while masked) was slowly making a comeback.

As always, you can’t really go wrong with a visit to the aquarium and as such it remains a very easy to recommend Cape Town attraction.
