Fateful Fondue Fun My Life 26 MAY 2011

Friday 20 May saw us host our first big event at home since the arrival of Jessica late last year, and seeing as it is kind of our trademark, it was time once again to pull out the fondue pots and brandish our long sharp forks.

A good indication of the ever rising cost of food meant that the this particular fondue cost almost twice as much as what it used to cost back in the day, but nevertheless we soldiered on, with Chantelle organising a fantastic platter of ready to fry goodies on the evening, complemented with a delectable selection of breads and ugh, salad (because she says that we have to).

And for pudding?

Well let us just say that it was once again the turn of the world famous chocolate box cake to make its appearance in Country Mews! :)

As for the guests, despite having to arrive in the pitch black darkness of Winter and then having to kind of sit through the period where we battled to get Jessica fed, bathed and into bed, the list included the welcome faces of Ryan and Michelle, Damen and Michelle, Evan and Natasha, Karl and Trish, and of course Mr. Brown (who rumour has it won’t be on our sunny shores for all that much longer!)

What followed was a fun evening of fondue pot battling as the eleven of us elbowed for space in the three available pots, ducked my concerted photographic efforts, laughed at Ryan impaling his hand with a fork bad enough that the blood was flowing freely, attempted to find a working exit strategy for fried samoosas that didn’t involve them going to pieces on you, and of course just enjoyed a fun and stress-free evening of friends, food and cheese sauce. Heck, even the cats were enjoying all the welcome attention they were receiving from everyone!

Oh, and needless to say, the cake went down a right treat with the hungry horde as well!

Visiting Hours Jessica | My Life 08 FEB 2011

What a bonus, Jessica slept just about all the way through on Monday evening! She’s been quite niggly for the last week or so, particularly during the evening, something that can either be attributed to a side-effect from her shots (states so on the packaging) or perhaps just because of the unbearable heat and humidity we have endured over the last little while. Anyway, we put her to bed after a good feed late evening and come morning when the tell-tale hunger cries began emanating from the nursery, we were quite surprised to see that it was already past 05:00 in the morning! Score! :)

By this stage almost everyone who needs to meet our little princess has done so, and this weekend was certainly no exception in terms of visitors. Friday night saw us hosting Karl and Trish for a Come Dine With Me dinner right out of the top shelf cook book (home made buns, chutney chops, home made soet koekies, home made ice-cream brownie sandwiches – you get the picture!), followed by some hilarious Blur racing bouts on the XBOX.

And it’s Back to the Grindstone! My Life 28 SEP 2009

Man, what an awesome four day mini-holiday that I’ve just come off of! :)

Thanks to yet another project deadline bungle I was offered the choice of working late on Tuesday to make a Wednesday deadline and get Friday off in return, an offer which was of course simply to good to refuse! And with the Heritage Day public holiday on Thursday, what a way to kick off a super long weekend!

I’ll break everything down into more detail when I get a chance of course, but for now an executive summary will suffice, so I’ll start things off by mentioning the fabulous fondue (held in lieu of a braai thanks to the shitty weather in GB) featuring Damen, Michelle, Rob, Laluna, Chantelle and yours truly on Thursday afternoon/evening, followed by a trip through to Ratanga on Friday with C (who turns out to be rather scared of anything remotely resembling a roller-coaster), and then rounded off with a viewing of Fame, which despite it’s excellent production values turned out to be a rather tepid and boring affair in my opinion.

Saturday Chantelle and I played tourists and went for a long drive around the Cape Peninsula and after a lunch at Fogeys in Muizenburg, ended up visiting with Claire at her offices for more than just a hour or two! Pizza treat for the Montgomery clan and then a spot of visiting with my folks, and that just about wrapped up Saturday nice and neatly.

Sunday, oh Sunday, started off with me busting up my piggy bank and laying down 11 big ones to purchase our very first 40″ Samsung Full HD LCD television, an absolute beauty if I say so myself! Then it was a quick lunch with the Montgomery clan and then off to GB where we set up the TV and got to grips with more wedding stuff, the end result being a particularly beautiful menu design and a 90% complete seating arrangement!

Oh, and did I mention that I enjoyed a healthy dose of squash battles on both Saturday and Sunday morning?

See, no wonder I’m so tired today at work! :)
