Fighting for Your Weekend My Life 04 AUG 2009

Karate_Tournament_21Man, can’t believe how both physically and mentally tired I am at the moment, despite having a pretty awesome weekend last weekend. I mean we kicked it off with a thoroughly relaxing Friday night in which Chantelle and I treated Wayne and Candice out to a nice supper at Indigo Spur at Waterstone Village in Somerset West, before returning to the guest house where I eventually left them to their own devices and got in a good (okay short) night’s sleep back home, before waking up early on Saturday morning in order to prepare for the big karate tournament that day.

Ryan arrived on my doorstep shortly before we had to leave and from there we went on to locate Somerset House Primary School with minimum fuss, though that said, it turns out that an automated gate CAN in fact get the better of the two of us! :)

The karate tournament itself (on which I’ll go into more detail in a subsequent post) stretched along for pretty much the whole day, with registration starting at 08:30 and the closing ceremony finishing up just before 17:00, giving Ryan and myself just enough time to grab some KFC takeaways for supper (thanks Ryan!) before settling down to catch the Springboks versus the All Blacks back home.

However, even the rugby wasn’t enough to keep the general yawns at bay and after the rugby finished up, I kicked Ryan out and immediately got to loafing around as much as possible. (In case you are wondering, Chantelle had decided to spend the day in Bellville for some or other reason. Something about setting up a registry before I got to look at it or something like that! :P)

Fast forward to Sunday and I was king of doing not much of any importance, playing games, watching movies (thoroughly enjoyed Batman vs. Dracula again) and reading comic books, only shifting out of my state of relaxation to finish up the occasional bout of housework ever now and then. Eventually though C did return from her travels and it was then straight into the task of planning and preparing for the wedding, a load of work that just never seems to want to subside I’ll let you know.

Anyhow, the point of all this rambling is: removing the karate tournament from the equation, I really didn’t get up to all that much physical this weekend, so just how come is it that I managed to oversleep on Monday morning and STILL I feel mentally and physically DRAINED?

Boy, I need a holiday methinks! O.o

Off to the Land of the Citrus My Life 20 MAR 2009

Citrus OrangeWhew, work is once again killing me and interfering with my karate and training regimes, all of which means I’m looking forward to getting away this weekend for a quick breakaway to Citrusdal for the weekend. The occasion? Well it’s Chantelle’s cousin Chane’s wedding, and so it will be a whole Montgomery clan get together at the little farming dorp. I just hope I’ve brushed up enough on my Afrikaans and Afrikaaner traditions! It’s going to be a brandewyn en Coke sokkiejol, I’m sure of it! ;)

Seriously though, work is keeping me real busy again. Early mornings and late nights in the office, made all the worse by the fact that I get home and then get cracking on Commerce stuff, sigh, which of course is making me rather cranky and perhaps not one of the nicest people to be around at times. Of course, this leads to a more tense atmosphere at home (but I’m sure has nothing to do with the increased amount of frogs the cats are bringing into the house), so hopefully this little getaway will be good for C and me!

No word from Commerce I.T. as to the status of the webmaster replacement search, so I’m assuming that there hasn’t been much luck on that side, and similarly on this side of the world we haven’t had any luck picking up our junior code monkey either. The deadline for our Message 4 Events conference communications platform is upon us and thankfully I’ve pretty much now finished what I wanted to have in place for the MTO Summit that kicks off on Tuesday the 24th March, Eastern Time (GMT-5). Of course, this means I have exactly five working days to develop my full featured reporting portal for the Manchester airport AERODAQ compliance system, meaning that come Monday it will be right back with nose to the grindstone!

Other news on the work front is that the new office is coming along VERY nicely. It’s been painted, carpeted, blinded, the works. Essentially waiting on Telkom now and once that’s in, then we should be pretty good to go for phase 1 of our rollout to the new office. Unfortunately though it does seem like the parking issues will remain unresolved, meaning that I’ll need to get some nice walking shoes – it’s a looooonng trek to the communal parking area from where we’re based!

In terms of the karate, all this work has had the annoying side effect that it has kept me out of the training hall for way too long, meaning that I’m not ready to take part in the year’s first Boland All Styles Karate tournament that will be taking place on the 28th of March in Kuilsriver. It’s a pity because I think I would really have enjoyed taking part, but unfortunately my current state of fitness is just way too low to even think about it! Oh well, I’m sure there will be more opportunities before the year is out.

Hmm, think that’s about all I wanted to share with you guys for now. Have a good weekend if I don’t catch you guys here again. (Got work to do you know!) ;)

Fight! My Life 06 JUL 2007

So tomorrow is the big day as I take part in the SAs Kyokushin semi-contact tournament. As per usual I haven’t put all that much training in, but I’m in fairly decent shape so hopefully it will go a little better than my last showing. Also a major bonus this time round is that I know a bit more about the rules and the scoring system for the semi contact bouts, which basically means I stand a slightly better chance of maybe sneaking a win in.

Last time I was merely trying to survive, this time Ill go out there sniffing for blood. Just by the way, when I say semi contact all it means is that we wear gloves and shinpads and win by scoring points. We still go out there trying to smack the crap out of our opponent – Should be fun! :)

Picked up a bit of an injury to my right shoulder in our last practice session on Wednesday though and its been a bit niggly since then. Hopefully it wont affect me too much. My biggest concern is getting my head right for the fight. Last time I was completely and utterly unmotivated this time I’m hoping I can conjure up some kind of fighting spirit or something. Maybe I should bribe myself with a new game or manga perhaps?

Any way, seems like my brother will be tagging along again, bring his video camera in tow, so I should have something to post up here next week.

Wish me luck!
