BaronsIt is that time of the year again when my car is in dire need of a service. My old …97 Mark III Jetta has just passed the 10 year old mark and as such is beginning to show signs of wear and tear. The latest problem to hit my wheels is a problem on the power steering, most likely a leaking reservoir or, heaven forbid, a faulty steering pump (damn expensive to replace!). Actually this problem popped up a while ago already, and I had it fixed up by our local backyard service garage, but as always you get what you pay for and lo and behold, the problem is back.

And talking about backyard service garages, I think I’m going to bite the bullet and pay the extra for a reputable service centre to service and repair the car, but damn it is going to cost me. Volkswagen Barons aren’t exactly known for being cheap and I’m going to need a pretty major service and repairs! Still, like my pops says, rather beware of these backyard mechanics at this time of the year – often they are looking to recoup as much of their December break losses as possible – and usually do this in any underhanded way they can think of!

I think I’ll try out Bellville’s Barons branch this time around – normally I use the foreshore branch but this year it is a bit out of the way for me. Hopefully they are as professional as the Cape Town bunch, but I’m guessing if you pay as much as you are they pretty much HAVE to be!

Nuts, looks like I’ll have to hold off on replacing my blown LCD for a little longer than what I had expected. :(
